Welcome to Wayne Community Schools!
From Dr. Mark Lenihan, Superintendent, Wayne Community Schools
Welcome to Wayne Community Schools and our website! I am hopeful our website provides information and resources for you, whether you are new to our school district, looking to re-locate to Wayne, or been part of Wayne Community Schools for several years.
Our school board and staff are committed to our vision of “Learning for Life, Every Student, Every Day” and work continually to help our students strive to do their best in all of their endeavors and become life-long learners. Our district serves approximately 925 students in three attendance centers: The Wayne Early Learning Center which serves three and four year-old preschool students, Wayne Elementary School, a kindergarten-6th grade facility; and Wayne Junior/Senior High School, a 7th -12th grade facility. The community embraces our local schools and supports them very generously with their time, talent, and treasure.
Not only does our school district provide a high quality academic program, we have numerous extracurricular opportunities for students to choose from. Our fine arts program is well-known for producing outstanding performances in the areas of band, choir, and theater. As part of the Nebraska School Activities Association, Wayne High School consistently produces competitive and championship-caliber teams in all of our extra-curricular endeavors. The school offers opportunities for boys and girls for several programs, including Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Softball, Golf, Cheerleading, Dance Team, Speech, Mock Trial, Basketball, Wrestling, Track and Field, Baseball, and a perennial state champion Power Drive program. Over 90% of our high students are involved in some form of extracurricular activity, providing students a well-rounded education that prepares them for their future endeavors after high school and beyond.
Wayne, Nebraska is a progressive community located 45 miles from Sioux City, Iowa, 30 miles from Norfolk, Nebraska, 125 miles from Lincoln, Nebraska, and 95 miles from Omaha, Nebraska. There are several characteristics that help make Wayne a truly special community. Wayne enjoys a thriving and rapidly growing business community, an institution of higher learning at Wayne State College, and some of the most beautiful and productive farm land in this part of the United States. There are several amenities that are part of Wayne that simply cannot be found in a community of our size. Providence Medical Center is one of the area’s leaders in providing quality medical services to residents of Northeast Nebraska. The Wayne Recreation Activity Center is a first-class recreational facility and is enjoyed by residents and guests of all ages. Members of our community, whether life-long residents or new to town, have many opportunities to be involved in community organizations. Local service organizations such as Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Optimist Club, and Lions Club are all vibrant and active in the community and provide for many opportunities to become involved and meet new people while contributing the greater good of Wayne.
With this quality education, vast employment opportunities, and numerous possibilities to become involved in the community, Wayne is an outstanding place to visit, re-locate, and raise a family. And to top it off, we enjoy an active church community and retirement facilities that are second to none. Oftentimes I hear people in Wayne talk about how living in a small town with so many possibilities is a luxury that is unmatched in the Midwest Region. Wayne, America is a community that truly provides our residence and our guests with a quality of life that exemplifies many positive values and a genuine Mid-Western friendliness that is evident all around our community.
