Congratulations to the following members of the Speech Team, who placed at the NSAA B-3 District Speech Meet on Monday at Wayne High:
Josie Ley, sixth in Persuasive; Ethan Samuelson, fifth in Extemporaneous; and Whitney Hadcock, fifth in both Serious Prose and Program Oral Interpretation.
Extra special congratulations to the following Blue Devil speakers, who by finishing third or higher punched their tickets to the 2026 State Speech Meet:
Sidney Nelson, third in Extemp.; Caleb Raulston, third in Entertainment; Landen Claussen, third in Humorous Prose; the Duet Acting team of Gabriel Armstrong and Wanso Barner, second; Colby Raulston, second in POI; Clara Ankeny, second in both Informative and Persuasive; Aidan Bohnert, second in Humorous; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama group of Grace Junck, Kennasyn Blecke, Josie Ley, Sophia Spieker, and Adrienne Anderson, second.
Four event champions call Wayne home: Adrienne Anderson in Serious; Sophia Spieker in Entertainment; the Duet of Colby Raulston and Aidan Bohnert; and the OID of Colby Raulston, Aidan Bohnert, Johen Piper, Gavin Anderson, and Gabriel Armstrong.
The day saw Wayne land the largest number of State Speech-qualifying events in school history, with thirteen.
In the team sweepstakes, Wayne finished first, ahead of third-place Columbus Lakeview and runner-up Schuyler. This is the third B-3 District championship in a row for the Blue Devils.
Next up for the Blue Devil Speakers is the State Speech Meet in Kearney at Horizon Middle School on Saturday, March 28.
